Due to a potentially dangerous choking hazard, Ohio based company Little Tikes is recalling approximately 1.6 million toys. The announcement came from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission after they received complaints of an 11-month boy who had to be hospitalized because a Little Tikes plastic nail got stuck in his throat. These plastic nails come as part of many of their products with the two biggest sellers being the Workshop Sets and Trucks. The nails come in blue and red colors and are about 3-1/4 inches long by 1-1/4 inch in diameter.
This is a massive recall of their products which were sold in many retail stores across the nation as well as online via places like www.littletikes.com. While the toys are intended for children 2 years or older they still could be very dangerous if swallowed. Little Tikes wants to ensure that all children who come in contact with their toys are safe from injury and therefore felt it was best to quickly recall the toys and trucks to resolve the situation as soon as possible. In a statement released by Little Tikes, they said that consumers should immediately remove the nails and contact the company for instructions on how to obtain free replacement parts “designed to fit and work in the existing workshop sets and trucks and be safe”.
Parents should double check all of their children’s toys to make sure they they do not have one of the many products that include these blue and red plastic screws. If you want to ask any questions about the recall you can call Little Tikes directly at 800-791-2737 or visit their website for more information about model numbers and UPC codes of the recalled products.
