As an online store owner you need to keep track of all of the various browsers that people use who visit your website. You should already be familiar with Internet Explorer,Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Safari, but now you should be aware of another browser coming into the market. Marc Andreessen who became rich when his first browser company Netscape Communications, which was sold off to AOL in 1998, is now an avid Internet investor. For the first time he has decided to back a company focused on the Internet browser space. The company is Rockmelt and after going to their website it seems to be in stealth mode. Not many details can be found about this next generation browser that the company is reported to be building. The New York Times reported a few things about the company, but nothing too specific about what will make this browser stand out among the competition. The Times did report that their privacy policy, which is now removed, indicated that their would be an integration with Facebook. The Times reported nothing more beyond that.
The best thing you can do for now is go to www.rockmelt.com and sign up to receive updates as to when they will go live. Only time will tell if RockMelt and Marc Andereesen will be able to establish their browser in a space that is primarily dominated by Mozilla’s Firefox and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. If you handle any design work on your ecommerce store then stay focused on the browsers where you get the most traffic from and make sure your store renders properly on that browser so that visitors will want to make a purchase.
