Slowly catching up to the competition, BlackBerry goes live with an online app store so users have ways outside their mobile phone to shop for apps. Most people think of the Apple iPhone when someone mentions apps for their phone, but BlackBerry, along with Google, has been working hard to gain market share in the multimillion dollar mobile app market. Many users have expressed frustration with the shopping on their BlackBerry for apps and have been eagerly awaiting the release of this new ecommerce app store.
The BlackBerry App World desktop version has already been receiving positive reviews. Some have even said that features are superior to the iTunes Store from Apple. One of the most basic differences from iTunes is that App World has a brief description of each app right on the first screen. Users can now view screenshots, reviews, pricing, download size, and a mobile app description all from their personal computer. Each app page also has social media bookmarking set up so you can easily share your favorite apps with your friends on sites like Twitter and Facebook. Finalizing your app purchase is easy as they send you an e-mail to your BlackBerry with a link to download the program. Now smart-phone fans only have to wait for Google to bring the Android App store experience online. Google already has the online site to browse the apps, but there is no way to purchase.
BlackBerry has had a noteworthy month with the App World news as well as their parent company Research In Motion (NSDQ: RIMM) topping Fortune magazine’s list of the world’s 100 fastest-growing companies. Research In Motion has had such success because of their dominance in the enterprise mobility space with the BlackBerry.
