Online video giant YouTube has millions of fans and for the first time ever they can now show their support by wearing some themed gear. It might not seem like a big deal for YouTube to debut an ecommerce store, but it has already received rave reviews from consumers. You can purchase things like a YouTube roller ball pen, socks, baby onesies, beanies, and even a 2009 collector’s edition unisex jacket for $80.55. Many of the products also use recycled goods or organic materials to stay in line with eco-friendly shopping trends. The shop does not have a ton of products yet, but now you can at least have a 21oz aluminum bottle to go in your Google Fridge.
One odd thing is that Google did not give YouTube a store on its domain but on their domain with it residing at http://www.googlestore.com/youtube.asp. So if you are not a huge YouTube fan, then take a look at the bigger Google store for items like a solar powered pedometer, lip balm, Rubik’s Cube or even a Slinky.
Company swag is great, but in the future we hope to see funnier themed items that play off the success of some of the most popular videos. YouTube could almost use it like big movie studios do and make products tie into their videos. One commenter on the YouTube blog had a great idea to add a co-branded Flip digital camcorder to the store since they are so popular among online videographers.
