Apple does not seem to be very worried about the future of their online sales as they let the Spotify app go live in their European app store this week. Not only will Spotify be available to European iPhone users, it will be on Android mobile phones as well. Traditionally Apple has been very protective over what apps it lets in their App Store, making sure nothing is too competitive, but this may be a sign that they are loosing their restrictions. The much anticipated Spotify app allows users the ability to stream music wirelessly over their iPhone or Android based mobile phone from a library of music hosted with Spotify. Spotify is based out of Sweden and hopes to bring the service to the US in the near future.

The service is reasonably priced at a mere $16 per month which allows a customer access to the Spotify system that offers a great selection of 6 million songs. This service will compete directly with iTunes as it will also allow you to buy and store music directly to your mobile phone. Spotify has been well received by the music industry as they offer a solid alternative to the variety of illegal sites in the marketplace. However many people wonder if Apple is only allowing this app in to try to avoid further issues with the FCC which they have butted heads with in the past for the rejection of certain apps. Only time will tell if Spotify will catch fire and become a popular alternative to buying songs from iTunes.
