Patrick Swayze’s death yesterday, from advanced pancreatic cancer at the age of 57, has driven people to go online in search of all things related to the famous actor, dancer, and singer. Not only are people searching for Patrick Swayze online, but they are putting up a lot of memorabilia for sale on Ebay and buying his classic movies. While prices for memorabilia have not inflated too much yet, it is only matter of time before we can tell how bad people will want to own something to remember him. Patrick Swayze started out dancing on Broadway in Grease and for The Walt Disney Company. However most people know him from his acting roles in movies like The Outsiders, Red Dawn, Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Point Break, and To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar.
Current Ebay items for sale include things like a hand signed 8×10 autograph picture of Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, signed Dirty Dancing poster, and a signed 8×10 picture of Patrick with a bare chest. More memorabilia items are likely to go live on Ebay and other auction sites in the coming weeks. DVD and Blu-Ray sales of the top Patrick Swayze movies should slowly pick up as people want to experience his movies again or perhaps for the first time. Online music sales should also increase for his Golden Globe nominated song “She’s Like The Wind” via iTunes and other ecommerce music sites. Over the next few weeks we should see more hard data on how Swayze’s untimely passing has spurred sales of related items and memorabilia.
