Ask.com debuted a new deal site this week which allows visitors to easily find a variety of online coupons, store promotions, and printable coupons for brick and mortar retail stores. A search for Halloween for example pulls up deals for various horror DVD’s and coupon codes for Halloween costumes at ecommerce sites like Spirit Halloween, Costume Kingdom, and BuyCostumes.com.
Ask.com always seems to have a new strategy every couple months on a project that will be the next big thing for the online media company. Despite all of their efforts they still have less than 5% market share when it comes to search engine traffic in the US. Overtime IAC the parent company of Ask.com has acquired numerous web properties like Evite and CitySearch which both apply to unique subject areas. This does make sense as they try and differentiate themselves from competitors by offering great sites in various subject areas.
Overall this is a great move for Ask.com as online shoppers love to get a deal and more and more people realize each day how easy it is to find coupons and deals. Ask.com is going to make it really simple for users to quickly find that coupon code they need to use in their online shopping cart or a coupon to print to use at their local store. Operating income has been way down for the company so only time will tell how this move will help in their overall strategy.
