Ecommerce sales have been good throughout the recession and have not experienced the same declines as brick and mortar stores. Internet retailers have continued to stay on top of the latest tools and technology to ensure they can compete. This type of attitude is what will help an ecommerce company make it out of the recession while remaining above water. If companies do not stay aggressive with testing of new technologies and tools, then they will most likely fall behind their competition. With 2010 approaching, we have gathered some interesting ecommerce trends for you to watch.
Mobile commerce will continue to grow as smart phones become more common and technologies advance. This means that if you do not already have a solid mobile commerce strategy, then you should work on one now for 2010. Sites like eBay, Amazon, and Starbucks lead the way now on mobile commerce, but the market is so new in the United States that there is room for much more competition. New mobile apps are coming out every day that are helping advance efforts to increase mobile commerce.
Enhanced customer service is a trend that social media is helping become more commonplace. People now have an easy open forum to give your company feedback via Twitter, Facebook, or MySpace. Therefore, it is essential to be available to these customers so they can receive timely answers to their questions. If you are not available to cater to the customers, then you might experience your competition trying to jump into the conversation and steal them away from you.
Improved business metrics is another part of business that will see growth next year as ecommerce sites realize they have a variety of data which they are not able to take any action upon. Being able to slice and dice your data so you can increase conversions or traffic is a vital part to growing an ecommerce business. If your business is not positioned to digest and take action upon all the valuable data you have, then you should consider an effort to fix that in early 2010.
