As the global economy continues to recover after having a rough couple years, more consumers are choosing to shop online. Outside the United States, many countries such as Jamaica have experienced strong ecommerce growth. This is a result of an increase in Internet availability and usage, as well as a desire to get the best deal possible. More and more online retailers are starting to expand internationally in order to sustain growth and stay competitive. There are also a variety of niche ecommerce sites popping up that cater just to one country making the complete experience tailored to that consumer audience. With Black Friday only a few weeks away the influx of traffic to ecommerce sites is only expected to continue as more and more Internet retailers make their best deals available online.
The global market has much opportunity for expansion as more countries continue to get up to speed on ecommerce. Many international consumers are still able to get a better deal online from a US site despite having to pay shipping and various taxes. This style of bargain shopper is only expected to increase which is why more Internet retailers need to have a strategic plan on how to attract and retain those consumers. If you are an ecommerce store owner and do not already have some international presence, you should definitely consider adding that to your business plans for 2010. Global expansion might not be that easy for every Internet retailer so at a minimum every storefront owner should have an evolving plan to cater towards the bargain conscious consumer by offering coupon codes, discounts, and deals. Attracting the budget minded shopper often results in viral marketing as they love to tell their friends and family about the great deal they got and where they purchased it.
