Amazon.com continues to diversify their investments by expanding their business lines and premiering their first Denim Jeans store. Previous highlights this year included an expansion into more Amazon brand products and the just completed acquisition of online shoe and apparel store, Zappos, for just over $1 billion. Zappos has long been a favorite of consumers, in particular women, because of their free shipping and flexible return policy that includes free return shipping. As an ongoing experiment, Amazon has decided to test out some of those features with their Denim shop to entice consumers to check it out and put some jeans in their shopping carts. The current offer is for free returns on your denim for 30 days and free shipping on many of the men and women jeans within the shop.
Amazon stated that the free shipping and free returns will only be offered for a limited amount of time. They did not indicate when this offer will expire, but most speculate that it will be sometime after the holiday season. Consumers will have over 40 brands of jeans to browse including the ever popular Levi’s as well as the designer names like Diesel, GUESS, and 7 For All Mankind. There are over 750 unique pairs of denim jeans for men and women in the shop with price points ranging from about $20 to $250. Consumers love to try on shoes to makes sure they fit before they purchase them and Zappos was successful because they made this easy. Only time will tell if consumers will flock to Amazon to buy jeans that they will have to wait to try on and then return if they do not like them. Not all products have been super successful via ecommerce, but many predict denim jeans will becoming an increasingly popular product line that people will shop for online.
