Almost every ecommerce website will have some sort of sale or promotion around Black Friday or sometime after in December to attract more customers. Every technique from coupon codes, free shipping, and special discounts will be used to try and get someone to put something in their shopping cart and make a purchase. While the majority of Internet retailers have a good reputation, there are also many that are unscrupulous. There are also many people who will be looking to make a quick buck by scamming someone into buying from an ecommerce store which is not legitimate. If you own or operate an ecommerce store, then here are the things consumers will be doing to be smart shoppers during the holidays. Make sure your website is prepared so that customers feel safe and secure in making their transactions.

1. Ensure your shopping experience is taking place on a secure and trustworthy site. Many shoppers like to see the Better Business Bureau symbol on the site to give them assurance that they will receive their item and if not they will be able to get resolution.

2. Read the Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions of any ecommerce website where you plan on shopping. This will help you understand how they treat your personal information which you will have to provide in order to make a purchase.

3. Pay with a credit card because, under Federal Law, you can dispute the charges if you never receive the item. Almost all ecommerce stores will allow you to pay with any of the major credit cards like AMEX, MasterCard, VISA, or Discover Card.

4. Keep all documentation regarding your purchase and monitor your credit card bills over the holiday shopping season to ensure you can return the product if needed or file a dispute if there is an incorrect charge on your credit card statement.
