Internet ecommerce giant, Ebay has long been known as the primary online destination for wacky and weird auctions. All types of celebrity related items are extremely common, but soon it is expected that a private video from the late 1950′s of Marilyn Monroe smoking what is rumored to be marijuana will be on the auction block. The silent color film of Marilyn was shot in either 1958 or 1959 at a private residence in New Jersey, and it recently surfaced after being stored in an attic for years. This very unique film was acquired by film maker and Marilyn memorabilia collector Keya Morgan who purchased this ultra rare footage for $275,000 from the original owner who shot the film. Mr. Morgan is currently in the process of creating a documentary about the death of Marilyn Monroe in 1962. His plans are to put the copyright of the image up for sale at an auction on Ebay early next week. Collectors and fans are already buzzing about this amazing find and many are speculating how much this precious image might sell for online at Ebay.
Earlier this year, Ebay held multiple auctions to finalize the sale of a burial crypt that is adjacent to Marilyn Monroe. The site is constantly in the press for some off the wall auction and soon this one will make headlines once Morgan gets it set up. There is not 100% proof that it is marijuana that Monroe is smoking, but the original owner who shot the footage indicated that it was and he purchased it. Later in the film after she had smoked, there is a scene where it looks like she takes a whiff of her own armpit and then starts to laugh really loud, which many believe suggests an altered state of mind. Only time will tell how much buzz the Ebay auction will actually create and who is willing to hand over big money to own the copyright of the image.
