People have been buzzing about Pixazza.com since they launched their crowd sourced photo-tagging product in March 2009, but things have really started to pick up since November 2009 when they opened up Pixazza to any web publisher. Almost every website or blog has a good selection of images, some feature people wearing clothing that we might want to buy. The scenario is best illustrated by fashion blogs or celebrity news sites, which showcase the latest and greats in fashion trends. This is where the Pixazza advertising platform comes into play, and meshes the world of fashion photos, with an ecommerce component. Think of it like Google Adsense, except instead of monetizing open space on your website with ads, the Pixazza technology gives web publishers a way to monetize their photos.

The best way to fully understand what Pixazza can do for a website is by seeing an example. If your browsing some of the recent photographs on AccessHollywood.com you will notice a picture of Twilight’s Kristen Stewart, wearing an amazing strapless Pucci dress at the ELLE Style Awards. When you go to mouse over the photo you will see a little pop over ad from Pixazza that shows you a very comparable Mason by Michelle Mason Strapless Dress with Front Drape, that you can buy online for only $246.40. If you were to go forward and purchase the dress via the picture on AccessHollywood, they would receive a share of the revenue which Pixazza makes via their partner. This form of advertising is a great way to bring elements of ecommerce into sites that cover fashion, but do not have a good way to connect visitors with similar fashion designs which they see on their site. Pixazza was recently mentioned in the New York Times, and they have a strong team of investors banking on their future success. Investors include Gideon Yu, former Facebook CFO and now general partner at Khosla Ventures, in addition to August Capital, CMEA Capital, and Google Ventures.
