There are numerous reasons why women are shifting more of their clothes shopping online, but there is one specific reason aided to the shift that may surprise you. A recent study by VibrantNation of successful women 50+ concluded that this demographic was changing the way they shop, and utilizing ecommerce sites more often for buying clothes. Specifically 13% of the 600+ women surveyed indicated that they’re only shopping online, and about 66% do a portion of their clothes shopping online. However there was bit of data that brick and mortar retailers might find interesting, in that 84% of women surveyed were not happy with the retail service they receive. Taking the time to go and shop in a retail store should entail great customer service from a staff who is happy to help and knowledgeable about the clothing. Instead the women in the survey expressed that the retail salespeople that they usually encounter are often rude, inexperienced, or just indifferent about the whole process.

Excellent customer service is why certain retail stores are still succeeding, as they put the customer as their top priority to ensure they get them to continue to come back and refer their friends. There were only a few big retail chains which the women were happy with in terms of service, with stores like Nordstrom, Macy’s, and Liz Claiborne at the top of the list. In addition to getting great customer service online, consumers have so many more tools at their disposal to research the product. You can easily read customer reviews, use virtual fitting rooms with augmented reality, and compare the price of an item across dozens of sites in a few minutes. In addition to all the time and energy saved, it is no wonder that successful and affluent women are shifting to online shopping to fulfill all of their clothing wants and needs.
