Famed comic book author Harvey Pekar passed away this morning at the age of 70, after surviving a a battle with lymphatic cancer which started in 1990. Pekar was best known for his autobiographical comic book series “American Splendor,” which was also made into a movie in 2003. The first comic strip Pekar every wrote debuted in 1972, and was illustrated by close friend Rober Crumb. This friendship that begain in the 1960′s is what led Pekar to start doing comics, as Crumb encouraged him to take the great stories he had from his travels and converted them into comics. The “American Splendor” comic series had a variety of illustraters over the years, and Pekar’s comics are still popular to comic fans to this day.
Now that Pekar has passed away, memorabilia of his work is being listed more frequently on Ebay, as collectors look to captilize on the increased interest in everything Harvey Pekar. There are roughly 140 items listed up for auction now on Ebay, with a handful of new items going up just hours after Pekar’s death this morning.
