Consumers wanting to shop online at American Eagle Outfitters (www.ae.com) have been denied for the past three days, as the ecommerce site has been down with the title tag saying “AEO Inc. will be right back” and a note on the home that states “We’re making updates to our sites.” The Wall Street Journal reported that American Eagle is attributing the downtime to their external host International Business Machines Corp. (IBM). IBM said that they’re working to restore service, but they did not comment on the root cause of the problem that has kept the American Eagle site down for three days. American Eagle has apologized for the inconveniences, and wants to have the ecommerce site back up online ASAP so consumers can start shopping again. In an effort to draw them back, American Eagle is offering up FREE shipping with the code 74936062 through 7/25.
Not only is this issue affecting the American Eagle ecommerce site, but has also halted online sales of their lingerie brand, Aerie and a clothing line for children, 77kids. Luckily they were able to go live this morning after being down the past three days. The site mentions at the top that consumers can now shop online again in the ecommerce store, but that they’re still working on fixing a few other issues like order tracking and wish lists. Hopefully the three days of down time did not drive too many consumers away from shopping at American Eagle, as the company has been working to keep up their sales to meet analysts expectations.
