new dell streakDell fans were very excited yesterday as there Dell had reported that the Dell Streak would be available for purchase today, however this was a mistake that is supposed to be corrected. As of last night there were still many mentions on the site that say the Dell Streak will be available in July. Therefore there has been a lot of confusion around the Dell Streak, and many consumers waiting to buy the device are upset due to the error. The Dell Streak is still coming out in the U.S for consumers to purchase, but the release date is not planned to be in July as reported by Dell. Consumers thought that they could sign up for a pre-sale offer, and then get an email with a link to purchase the new Dell Streak phone/tablet hybrid for $299 with a new AT&T contract. Unlocked versions of the Dell Steak are supposed to run $549.99, but official pricing has still not been confirmed. Although it now looks like the pre-sale sign up will not do much for consumers, as everyone is now waiting to hear what the official launch date will be this summer.

Many consumers who have looked into the Dell Streak are a bit unsure where it fits in the smartphone and tablet market, as the device does both. At 5-inches, the Dell Streak is a bit of a mystery since it is smaller than most other tablets and bigger than almost all smartphones. Therefore it is unclear if consumers will jump at a chance to own this device, when they have so many other tablet and smartphone options. Other questions about the Dell Streak revolve around the operating system, which is set to be Android 1.6. Google Android smartphones are currently running the 2.1 operating software, and it is expected that the 2.2 operating software will come to all Android devices by end of year, so running on 1.6 is not very appealing. Once the real pre-sale begins, it will be interesting to see if the Dell Streak will survive, or go down the path of the now defunct Microsoft Kin and Google Nexus.
