Not all football fans know who Chad Johnson is, but almost all know who Chad Ochocinco is, and that he plays for the Cincinnati Bengals. Chad Johnson began playing football in 2001, when he was drafted in the second round of the 2001 draft to the Bengals. His performance in the NFL has been impressive, with six Pro Bowl selections so far in his football career. However the popularity of Chad Johnson was elevated to the next level in 2008, when he legally changed his last name from Johnson to Ochocinco to reflect the number 85 that he has had throughout his NFL career. The rise in popularity continued for Ochocinco, as he participated in “Dancing With the Stars,” and he even had his own reality dating TV show called “Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch.” Now Ochocinco is jumping into another venture that will help him market himself to the masses. Starting next month, fans of Ochocinco will be able to get a taste of something unique, as the NFL player has teamed up with Pittsburgh-based PLB Sports to create a new breakfast cereal called Ochocinco’s.
Ochocinco’s breakfast cereal will remind people of a Wheaties box, as every box has a big picture of Ochocinco in his #85 football jersey, where he holds up two O-shaped pieces of the cereal. With a name like Ochocinco, PLB Sports did not have to work too hard to create a traditional O-shaped honey nut toasted cereal, that looks similar to Cheerios. PLB Sports is one of the leaders in athlete endorsed food products, and next month fans can purchase Ochocinco’s via their ecommerce store. Not only will Ochocinco’s be sold online, but it will also be available at Kroger stores in Cincinnati and Dayton for $3 a box. While marketing deals can be lucrative for NFL players, true fans only care about how well Ochocinco will perform this year as a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Update: Ochocino Cereal is now available online.
