Over the past decade, most luxury fashion retailers have been slow to adopt the online channel as another means to generate sales and revenue, but Italian fashion brand Gucci has been pushing forward in the ecommerce space since 2002. Over the last 1.5 years Gucci Creative Director, Frida Giannini, has been leading a complete overhaul of their Digital Flagship store at Gucci.com so that it was using the latest and greatest in technological innovation. With 2.5 million unique visitors, Gucci.com needed a beautiful site, that was still functional so that customers could easily make their way around to browse Gucci fashions and check out of their shopping cart while ultimately trying to mimic the overall experience that a customer would feel when walking into a brick and mortar Gucci signature flagship store. This is the goal of most luxury retailers online, as they want to match the high end experience of a retail store, so that it does not degrade the quality of their brand.
Not only is the new design on Gucci.com aesthetically pleasing, but also is easy to use once you get familiar with how they set up the ecommerce site. Currently you can shop via Men, Women, Handbags, and the Fall/Winter 2010/2011 collection. Another great feature of the new site is that it is Apple iPad friendly so that those higher income Gucci customers can easily shop anywhere they can get online with their iPad. Gucci shoppers can also easily share their favorite items in the ecommerce site via email, Facebook, or Twitter. On Facebook Gucci currently has over 923,000 fans, and the new online store is sure to be visited by many of them over the coming weeks.

Scott,
The Gucci website really is a great example of an online shop. Do you by any chance know which shop system they are using?
Cheers and happy Easter,
