Nikon is one of the top camera manufacturers in the world, and Canon and Sony are the only other two camera manufacturers that give them serious competition in the United States. Despite being such a big hit with photographers, Nikon has not had a way for people in the U.S. to buy directly from them online. Sony and Canon have had ecommerce storefronts for sometime, and Canon recently performed a major upgrade to their website and online store. Now Nikon has quietly jumped into the space, by opening up their own online store for Nikon USA. Nikonrumors.com looked to be first to break the news, as there did not seem to be an official press release. Almost everything “Nikon” is available for sale at their new online store, from affordable items like the COOLPIX S6000 for $199.99, to the high end AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4G ED VR telephoto lens, which will run you just over $10,0000.
However there is a group of Nikon products in the online store that they do not sell direct, and this is their line of DSLR cameras. There are 7 models on the site, starting with the affordable D3000 for $549.95, to the high end D3X for $7999.95. Instead of a buy button, these all have a where to buy button, which takes you to a page that helps you find retail locations to purchase it, and other online retailers who sell it. One Nikon model not on the site, that Amazon has available for pre-order, is the Nikon D3100 for $699.00. In general most of the prices at the Nikon USA online site seem to be the MSRP, as you can find most things cheaper at other online retailers like Amazon.com.
