Earlier this year, eBay hosted their annual Innovation Expo, which hosts hundreds of employees from the company to participate in developing new prototypes for products and cool innovations that will benefit buyers and sellers. These eBay employees that participated come from every department and level of the organization, and this year over 250 people on more than 70 teams competed for the coveted grand prize. The winning idea from the event this year was dubbed “simple green shipping,” which has turned into a new pilot program set to launch in October, simply called the eBay Box. Ebay is getting ready to test out this new venture, that will soon put 100,000 durable shipping boxes made from recycled products in the hands of eBay sellers.
The new eBay Boxes are very cool, as they’re made from 100% recycled content and are fully recyclable. However eBay is hoping that these boxes do not get recycled right away, as they want them to be reused at least five times, so that it can help to save trees and water which are needed to create new boxes. While most people are very excited about the idea, there has been mention online that this style of box sharing, could lead to sharing other things, like bedbugs. While this is unlikely to happen, it is possible since the boxes will be going to a variety of places before becoming too worn to use. If you want to get your hands on some free eBay Boxes, then you need to monitor this site, for a chance to participate in the pilot program launching in October.
