Since 2007, Domino’s has been working hard to lead the way in mobile and online pizza ordering, by giving customers a great ecommerce experience. In 2009 they took things to the next level by launching a Pizza Tracker application, which gives customers the opportunity to view constant updates regarding the status of their pizza order. Additionally 2009 was a pivotal year for Domino’s, as they made a giant step to improve their pizza, by doing a complete overhaul of their recipe. The new and improved pizza has a garlic seasoned crust, higher quality cheese, and sweeter tomato sauce. All of these efforts allowed Domino’s to surpass $1 billion in sales at the beginning of this year. Online sales continue to grow and help increase revenue for Domino’s, as it was recently reported that the company posted a profit of $47.1 million through the first half of the year, which is up 23% from a year ago. Another interesting stat is that roughly 25% of all Domino’s orders nationwide now come online via their ecommerce site.
Over the past few months, Domino’s has continued to push forward with their marketing efforts, as they not only continue to hype online ordering, but also are hyping up how great their pizza’s look. They want to show customers that their pizza looks amazing, and that there is no need for extra photography tricks and touch ups to show it off. This is why they have been on a push to to have fans snap some shots of their pizza and submit to their contest for a chance to win $500! Some of the top photos can be reviewed at the ShowUsYourPizza.com.
Clearly, even though Pizza Hut had the first recorded Internet sale back in 1994, Domino’s is now the trend setter in the space.
