Shawn Carter, AKA Jay-Z, is one of the most popular hip hop artists of all time, selling an estimated 50+ million albums over his career. Not only is Jay-Z a well known hip hop artist, but he is also a savvy businessman, with a net worth reported to be over $150 million. Jay-Z co-owns the New Jersey Nets and The 40/40 Club, plus he is the creator of popular hip hop clothing line, Rocawear. Now in an effort to continue with his musical and entrepreneurial success, Jay-Z is set to release his first greatest hits album, dubbed The Hits Collection Volume 1. The greatest hits album does not actually come out until November 22, but Jay-Z fans are already rushing to purchase it via preorder. Some are even opting to preorder the collector’s edition box set, which comes with a 100 page photobook and a bonus CD with 5 additional rare tracks. After 10+ years of putting out music, and winning a number of Grammy Awards, the timing seems just right for Jay-Z to release The Hits Collection Volume 1.
Jay-Z is also leveraging his entrepreneurial expertise to release a book dubbed Decoded, which at first sounds like it might be a biography that takes a deeper look into the man behind the artist we know as Jay-Z. However the book is actually something much different, as it sheds light on some of his favorite songs, and explanations around the inspiration behind the music that so many people have come to love. What is funny is Jay-Z actually views Decoded as a book of rhymes, but as many fans know, Jay-Z does not actually write down his lyrics before recording. He keeps it all in his head and then just works on recording them for his albums. Anyone looking to preorder Decoded which comes out on November 16, can pick up a hardcover copy of the book, or for those more savvy users, you can pick up the ebook for the Amazon Kindle.
