There are mixed feelings about the WP e-Commerce plugin, some love it and some not so much. But the fact remains, with over 500,000 downloads (by far and away the most popular ecommerce plugin for WordPress), umpteen free and premium themes built using its code, and its seemingly infinite list of features, it really is an essential powerhouse of a plugin. And the best thing of all? It is completely FREE.

I am currently using the newer 3.7.6 and ok with it so far. I just needed an easy way to sell my the merchandise for my band and it is easy. Unfortunately, it's not really a full featured online store, with things like email marketing, inventory management, and the ability to use something other than PayPal or Google Checkout for sales. Now just waiting for the new 3.8 release, or at least to test out the BETA.

I stumbled onto getshopped.org a couple months ago and was so happy to find out about their Wordpress free shopping cart plug-in. It helps me with my site to sell the handmade goods I make, that I also sell on Etsy. I haven't seen a huge increase in sales or anything, but it's nice to have.

I just got into the private Beta for the 3.8 release and so far I am not a fan. There are so many problems I have with this plugin that I was hoping 3.8 would fix, but so far nothing. It's a clunky tool that works if you're only planning on selling a few things every month, but if you want to handle a high amount of inventory and really go crazy with sales, don't use this. I'm switching to Vendio.
