From James Barnsley

I would say there are certainly many good things about Shopify, however the bad points also make it quite lame. For instance I have written "you can build blogs and pages" however I also wrote that the WYSIWYG does not produce valid html. So these two points cross over. Because the blogs and pages will not be valid html. And also like I say, you are only allowed to use three variants, well I cannot understand why Shopify did that especially when it would have been easy for them to design it with 20 – 1000 variants. They must have chosen three variants for calculated reasons. I said that the admin panel was easy to use, and in a way it is, for both designers and clients, they have junked it up with bulky features, and it is very slick and lean.

Shopify is a slick system and their templating engine is awesome and easy to work with... I'm a big fan. But it's expensive... if you do any volume at all, it will quickly add up and can be as expensive as some really heavyweight solutions out there. That's why I don't currently use it on any of my sites.

shopify is smoother and easier. But the % cost can be a killer. Depends on your sales volumes. Im my opinion, its better to focus on marketing then on the system. If money is coming in the $50-200 you spend per month shouldnt matter

Shopify has a limitation of how many product variations you can have. It will only list up to 100 variations per product and no more than 3 options (ex: color, size, material). So for example if you have a t-shirt in 4 sizes and 3 colors, shopify can handle that just fine. But if you are selling a duvet cover in 5 sizes, 10 colors and 3 different cloth types, it can't handle that many variations.

Shopify is pretty cool on the high end of things, where you have 0 transaction fees, but it can be tough for smaller online stores who need all of the revenue. I dig their system, but do not get how they tier their transaction fees, and why they limit features on the entry level packages.

This tool is both affordable and easy to use. I setup my store in minutes and had a sale within 2 hours of purchase!! All told, I'm very happy with Shopify as an eCommerce shopping cart.

Of all the shopping cart solutions I've seen, this one takes the cake. Price-wise, there's an option for every type of merchant. If you have a TON of traffic to your store, then you'll want the higher cost plan, but if your traffic is lower then you can pay less. In other words, with Shopify you really have the opportunity to allow your sales to pay for your shopping cart. They host the cart for you which means your maintenence is low and your up-time is top notch. Great choice!

This is a pretty basic shopping cart. When it comes down to it, I suggest this cart to beginners, but if you're a seasoned merchant, stear clear. This shopping cart lacks some important features like contact forms, email to a friend, and other up sell options that are really key to improving your ROI.

As a beginner online retailer (etailer) I'm very happy with Shopify. It has a great template system that works easily like Wordpress. Also, since they host the site for you, everytime they update their features you can sit back and relax because they'll update your site as well. I've been told that as my business grows I should look into something with more features, but I think I'll stick with Shopify because it does everything I need.

What's good about this cart is that they don't over complicate the software. It's SO easy to use that my 10 year old son can and has updated a page or two for me. The down side of this software is that it's not overly complicated, which means that there aren't many bells and whistles. Such is life, if you want one, you'll get the other I guess.

Shopify is excellent! As someone with no coding experience, I broke the bank with a web designer for my site and ended up without any money left to get her to add ZenCart to my site, which was the original plan. Because I wasn't sure what to do, I started browsing Google for other options and found Shopify. As a hosted ecommerce store front, I didn't need to do much of anything to get it working with my site. All editing can be done through their templates, you just upload your products and BAM! I'm very pleased with this product.

The phrase "You Get What You Pay For" seems very appropriate in Shopify's case. Yes it's a cheap solution, in fact you can use it for free if you're willing to give Shopify a percentage of all your sales. But as a serious retailer, I just can't justify it. There just aren't enough features that help my bottom line. If you're just starting out, then use Shopify and you'll be elated at the results, but if you make your living online, then try something like Nexternal, Network Solutions, or X-Cart. Trust me, you won't be sorry with one of those.
